Fishing Mission Bay

Imperial Beach, San Diego Bay and Mission Bay: calm bays, long piers and warm water much of the year.

What's biting now (Fall): Halibut and rockfish; calico bass in the south. Some salmon and striped bass in San Francisco Bay.

Commonly caught in this area: Spotted bay bass, halibut, corbina, yellowfin croaker, mackerel and bonito.

Also caught here: yellowtail, white seabass, California corbina, leopard shark.

Shallow flats fish best on a rising tide that pushes fish up to feed. Move slowly, wear polarized glasses and look for tailing fish or nervous water. Cast ahead of fish, not on top of them.
