This policy explains what information FishCast Now ("we") collects when you use fishcastnow.com and how we use it. FishCast Now is operated by Axiella Ltd, registered in England and Wales (company number 16859263), which is the data controller.
Information we collect
- Contact form. If you message us, we receive your message and any name and email address you choose to give, plus your IP address and browser type (to prevent spam). We use these only to reply and keep a record of the conversation.
- Business listings. If you list a business on our Advertise page, we store the business details you give us (shown publicly once approved) and your name and email (never shown), which we use only to manage your listing. Ask us to remove it any time.
- Stocking alerts. If you sign up for a lake alert, we store your email address, the lakes you follow and when you confirmed. We only use it to email you about new stocking at those lakes (at most one email a day). Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, which deletes your sign-up.
- Analytics (only if you accept). If you click Accept on our cookie banner, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are useful. It collects pseudonymous usage data such as pages viewed, device type and approximate location (country or city). We do not use it to identify you.
- Weather where you are. To show local weather on the home page, our server looks up the rough town for your IP address using the DB-IP City Lite database (stored on our own server - your IP is not sent to anyone else for this and is not stored). If you tap "Use my exact location", your browser asks your permission first; the position is rounded to about 1 km, kept in your browser so it loads next time (tap "Forget my location" to remove it), and sent to us only to fetch the forecast from the National Weather Service or MET Norway. We do not keep a record of it.
- Server logs. Our web server keeps standard logs (IP address, page requested, time) for security and troubleshooting. These are deleted automatically after a short period.
We do not have user accounts yet, we do not sell or share your email address, and we do not show personalized ads.
Cookies and local storage
- Your choices: we store your cookie choice and light or dark mode preference, temperature unit, saved spots and (if you choose) your rounded location in your browser's local storage. These are needed for the site to remember your settings.
- Google Analytics cookies (_ga, _ga_*) are set only after you click Accept. If you click Reject, no analytics cookies are set.
You can change your choice any time using "Cookie settings" in the footer of every page.
Third parties
Google (analytics, only with your consent) and our email provider (to deliver contact form messages) process data on our behalf. Some of these providers may process data outside your country, under appropriate safeguards.
How long we keep data
Contact messages are kept for up to 2 years. Analytics data is kept for 14 months.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under UK and EU GDPR or US state laws such as the CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, or to object to its use. Email info@fishcastnow.com and we will respond within one month. UK residents can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Children
FishCast Now is a general audience site and does not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes
We will update this page if our practices change, for example when we add accounts or advertising.
