Fishing Cedar Key
The quiet Nature Coast from Homosassa to St. Marks: shallow grass flats, spring-fed rivers and limestone bottom. Very shallow water means tides decide where you can fish.
What's biting now (Fall): Fall is prime time: the mullet run draws snook, tarpon, redfish and bluefish along the beaches and inlets, and big schools of redfish gather on the flats.
Commonly caught in this area: Spotted seatrout, redfish, sheepshead, cobia and Spanish mackerel.
Also caught here: gag grouper, Spanish mackerel, ladyfish, jack crevalle, tripletail, sheepshead.
Shallow flats fish best on a rising tide that pushes fish up to feed. Move slowly, wear polarized glasses and look for tailing fish or nervous water. Cast ahead of fish, not on top of them.

How the bite outlook works
The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
