Fishing Port Canaveral

Daytona to Cocoa Beach: surf beaches, Ponce Inlet's jetties and the shallow Indian River Lagoon system, including Mosquito Lagoon, famous for sight fishing big redfish in clear, skinny water.

What's biting now (Fall): Fall is prime time: the mullet run draws snook, tarpon, redfish and bluefish along the beaches and inlets, and big schools of redfish gather on the flats.

Commonly caught in this area: Redfish, spotted seatrout, snook, tarpon, pompano, whiting and black drum.

Also caught here: jack crevalle, ladyfish, croaker, mangrove snapper, blacktip shark, hardhead catfish.

Piers put you over deeper water without a boat. Fish the pilings for sheepshead and snapper, and cast out from the end for mackerel and pompano when they run. Many Florida piers sell a license that covers everyone fishing from that pier.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
