Fishing Sanibel Island

Marco Island up to Venice: mangrove shorelines, passes and Charlotte Harbor. Boca Grande Pass is world famous for tarpon in late spring and early summer.

What's biting now (Fall): Fall is prime time: the mullet run draws snook, tarpon, redfish and bluefish along the beaches and inlets, and big schools of redfish gather on the flats.

Commonly caught in this area: Snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, tarpon, sheepshead and Spanish mackerel.

Also caught here: jack crevalle, ladyfish, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, tripletail, blacktip shark.

Shallow flats fish best on a rising tide that pushes fish up to feed. Move slowly, wear polarized glasses and look for tailing fish or nervous water. Cast ahead of fish, not on top of them.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
