Fishing Siesta Key

Florida's largest open-water estuary, ringed by piers, bridges, grass flats and beach passes. Long fishing piers make it one of the easiest areas to fish without a boat.

What's biting now (Fall): Fall is prime time: the mullet run draws snook, tarpon, redfish and bluefish along the beaches and inlets, and big schools of redfish gather on the flats.

Commonly caught in this area: Snook, redfish, spotted seatrout, tarpon, Spanish mackerel and sheepshead.

Also caught here: jack crevalle, ladyfish, mangrove snapper, gag grouper, Spanish mackerel, blacktip shark, hardhead catfish.

Inlets funnel bait in and out with every tide, and predators wait at the edges. Fish the last part of the incoming and first part of the outgoing tide, and watch the current - inlets can be dangerous for small boats.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
