Fishing Sandy Hook
Sandy Hook and Manasquan Inlet: surf, jetties and the mouth of Raritan Bay.
What's biting now (Fall): The fall striped bass run along the Jersey Shore is legendary, with blackfish and bluefish too.
Commonly caught in this area: Striped bass, bluefish, fluke (summer flounder), weakfish and blackfish (tautog).
Also caught here: false albacore, tautog, black sea bass, winter flounder.
Read the beach before you cast: look for darker troughs, rip currents and cuts in the sandbar where fish feed. Sand fleas and shrimp are reliable surf baits, and the first and last hours of daylight are usually best.

How the bite outlook works
The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
