Fishing Newport (Yaquina Bay)

Coos Bay to Depoe Bay: big estuaries, jetties and the world's smallest navigable harbor at Depoe Bay.

What's biting now (Fall): Fall salmon runs in coastal rivers and bays (by season); surfperch and rockfish from jetties.

Commonly caught in this area: Rockfish, lingcod, surfperch, salmon in season and crab.

Also caught here: cabezon, kelp greenling, steelhead, white sturgeon.

Inlets funnel bait in and out with every tide, and predators wait at the edges. Fish the last part of the incoming and first part of the outgoing tide, and watch the current - inlets can be dangerous for small boats.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
