Fishing Diamond Lake

Lakes east of the Cascades, from the Okanogan to Spokane and the Columbia Basin. Colder winters and hot summers - spring and fall are prime trout seasons.

What's biting now (Fall): Fall stocking of catchable and jumbo trout in many western Washington lakes; trout feed well as water cools.

Commonly caught in this area: Rainbow, brown and tiger trout, kokanee, plus bass, walleye and perch in some lakes.

Also caught here: smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, bluegill, channel catfish, tiger muskie, brook trout.

Freshly stocked trout tend to cruise near the surface and along the shoreline in the first days after a plant. Simple setups work: a small spinner, a bobber with bait or PowerBait, or a slowly trolled small lure.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines recent stocking, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
