Fishing Venice

Cocodrie, Port Fourchon, Grand Isle and Venice: endless marsh, barrier islands and the mouth of the Mississippi.

What's biting now (Fall): One of the best seasons: speckled trout move into the marsh and lakes, and redfish school up along shorelines.

Commonly caught in this area: Redfish, speckled trout, black drum, sheepshead and tarpon.

Also caught here: croaker, Spanish mackerel, jack crevalle, tripletail, hardhead catfish.

Tidal rivers and creek mouths are best when the tide is moving and draining bait out of the marsh. Fish points, bends and oyster bars on the falling tide.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
