Fishing Port Aransas

Rockport, Port Aransas and Corpus Christi: grass flats, the Aransas Pass jetties and Bob Hall Pier on the open Gulf.

What's biting now (Fall): Bull redfish run through the passes and jetties, and flounder migrate to the Gulf. Speckled trout feed hard on the bays.

Commonly caught in this area: Redfish, speckled trout, black drum, tarpon in summer and king mackerel from the pier.

Also caught here: croaker, jack crevalle, hardhead catfish, tarpon, blacktip shark, sheepshead.

Inlets funnel bait in and out with every tide, and predators wait at the edges. Fish the last part of the incoming and first part of the outgoing tide, and watch the current - inlets can be dangerous for small boats.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
