Fishing Port Mansfield
Port Mansfield to South Padre: very shallow, clear, salty water - some of the best sight fishing for redfish and trout in the country.
What's biting now (Fall): Bull redfish run through the passes and jetties, and flounder migrate to the Gulf. Speckled trout feed hard on the bays.
Commonly caught in this area: Redfish, speckled trout, snook, flounder and black drum.
Also caught here: snook, jack crevalle, croaker, ladyfish, sheepshead.
Shallow flats fish best on a rising tide that pushes fish up to feed. Move slowly, wear polarized glasses and look for tailing fish or nervous water. Cast ahead of fish, not on top of them.

How the bite outlook works
The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
