Fishing Bayou La Batre

Dauphin Island, Fort Morgan and Gulf Shores: sandy surf beaches, a long Gulf pier and the busy pass into Mobile Bay.

What's biting now (Fall): Redfish run near the mouth of Mobile Bay and flounder migrate to the Gulf through the passes.

Commonly caught in this area: Pompano, redfish, speckled trout, Spanish and king mackerel, cobia in spring.

Also caught here: pompano, Spanish mackerel, king mackerel, cobia, gray triggerfish, jack crevalle, blacktip shark.

Shallow flats fish best on a rising tide that pushes fish up to feed. Move slowly, wear polarized glasses and look for tailing fish or nervous water. Cast ahead of fish, not on top of them.

How the bite outlook works

The rating is our estimate, not a guarantee. It combines tide range, wind, rain and storms, temperature swings, the moon phase and how well the solunar periods line up with dawn and dusk. Fish do not read forecasts - local knowledge always wins. Read more
